Honey in the Rock: My 40-Day Sugar Fast

I’m kicking off my 40-day sugar fast — not just to step away from sugar, but to run toward something sweeter. I’ve struggled with sugar addiction for years. This time, I’m using The 40-Day Sugar Fast by Wendy Speake as my guide, leaning hard on God for both strength and transformation — inside and out.

The song Honey in the Rock has been playing in my head as I start. It reminds me that God’s goodness is present in every season, and His love is the sweetest thing I’ll ever taste.

Here’s to 40 days of surrender, renewal, and finding true sweetness in Him.

Book Recommendations:

When I want to douse myself in knowledge, I always turn to books. Here’s a few of my favorite books about sugar/food addiction.

Sugar Blues by William Duffy

“It’s a prime ingredient in countless substances from cereal to soup, from cola to coffee. Consumed at the rate of one hundred pounds for every American every year, it’s as addictive as nicotine — and as poisonous. It’s sugar. And “Sugar Blues”, inspired by the crusade of Hollywood legend Gloria Swanson, is the classic, bestselling expose that unmasks our generation’s greatest medical killer and shows how a revitalizing, sugar-free diet can not only change lives, but quite possibly save them.” This book was EYE-OPENING and so helpful when I was first making the decision to change my relationship with sugar.

The 40-Day Sugar Fast by Wendy Speake

This is the book I’m using this time around, and I’m excited for a daily study to go along with my fast.

“If you run to sugar for comfort or reward, eat mindlessly or out of boredom, feel physically and spiritually lethargic, or struggle with self-control, this fast will help you discover not only freedom from your cravings but an entirely new appetite for the good things God has for you.”

Food Junkies: Recovery from Food Addiction by Vera Tarman

I read this book back in 2012 and really enjoyed it. It’s a quick read and focused on a variety of food disorders and issues. Great for anyone looking to arm themselves with solid research and a plan for overcoming food addiction.

If you enjoyed this episode, I’d love for you to share it with a friend or mama who might be walking a similar path. You can also leave a review or message me — your words mean the world and help others find this space.

I’ve included links to some of the books that helped shape my mindset about sugar. These are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you) if you choose to purchase through them. I only share what I truly love and trust.

Thank you for being here. I’m so grateful to walk this journey with you.
