In this episode, I’m sharing the story of my first birth at home – the decision to birth at home, what led me there, and how the experience unfolded. From navigating traditional care with an OB to swtiching to a midwife, learning about birth, and dealing with conflict, this is a raw and real reflection of my pregnancy and birth. Whether you’re curious about homebirth or just love a good birth story, this one’s for you.

So, with Lochlan’s pregnancy and birth, I actually started a blog called A Little Baby K where I shared regular updates. You can check it out here: https://alittlebabyk.wordpress.com/page/2/
It’s fun to go back and read those and remember all of the intense feelings, wonder and excitement of my first pregnancy.
I also know I read a TON of books – I don’t think every mom/expecting parent has to read books – but I was so interested, and it really helped me feel more comfortable with getting ready for labor and becoming a mom.
Book Recommendations:

It’s been the PERFECT read for this stage of pregnancy. It’s full of women’s birth stories and it has really helped to curb my anxiety of the unknown of birth. Reading about women trusting themselves and being allowed to birth their way, is really empowering. The stories are so different and yet, at the end, they all had a beautiful, healthy baby and journey.
In one woman’s story, she says, “Hospitals are places for serious illnesses. Childbirth is not an illness.”
I LOVED this. I think when I first wrote about homebirth, I was pretty harsh on hospitals and that was wrong. I am soooo thankful for doctors, hospitals and advanced medicine. There are situations where having a hospital and doctor available is life saving. However, for most women, pregnancy and child birth is a very natural, normal process with few complications. In those situations, I think home birth or birth with a midwife is the right choice for women, if that’s what they want.
